Lights out - Kernels blank River Bandits, 3-0, in nightcap

April 9, 2008 – Three Cedar Rapids pitchers combined to hold Quad Cities to just two hits as the Kernels completed the DH sweep, 3-0, on a chilly Wednesday night at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Robert Fish, Sammy Leon and Ryan Brasier combined to strike out 10 and hold the River Bandits scoreless for the second game in a row.

Fish (1-0) allowed the two hits, but struck out eight over five innings to get the victory. Leon and Brasier each pitched one scoreless inning and struck out one as Brasier earned his second save of the season.

The top of the Kernels batting order accounted for six of the team’s eight hits as Clay Fuller, Andrew Romine and Jay Brossman each had two hits. Brossman extended his hitting streak to a team-high seven games. Anel De Los Santos was 2 for 3 with a double.

Sean Garceau (0-1) gave up three runs (one earned) on six hits over three innings to take the loss.

The final game of this four game series with Quad Cities is scheduled for Thursday evening at 6:30 pm. It’s the first 100.7 The Fox Thirsty Thursday, with 12 ounce draft beer just $1.50 and bottled soda and water $2. Gates open at 5:30 with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 pm.
