April 30, 2008 The Burlington Bees scored three runs over the final two innings to take the last game of a three game series, 6-3, from the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Wednesday night at Community Field in Burlington.
The Kernels took an early 3-0 lead on a three run home run by Jeremy Moore, his fourth home run of the season. Burlington tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a two run home run by Jason Taylor and an RBI single by Alwin Perez.
The Bees scored a single run in the bottom of the seventh as with two outs, David Lough singled in Adrian Ortiz, and then was caught in a rundown to end the inning. Burlington tacked on two more unearned runs in the eighth on two Kernel fielding errors.
Burlington starter Alex Caldera (2-2) allowed three runs on six hits and struck out nine over seven innings to get the win. Kernels starter Trevor Reckling (2-1) allowed four runs on six hits, walked three and struck out six over seven innings to take the loss.
The Kernels were held to just six hits as Ivan Contreras was 2 for 3 with a runs scored. Chris Rosenbaum, Julio Perez, and Gordie Gronkowski each had a hit.
After an off day on Thursday, the Kernels head to Fort Wayne on Friday to start a three game series with the Wizards. The first game is Friday night at 5:00 pm and John Rodgers brings you all the action in eastern Iowa on 1450 KMRY and on the internet at www.kernels.com.
The next home game at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium is Monday, May 5th when the Kernels welcome the Peoria Chiefs and their hall of fame manager, Ryne Sandberg, for their only Cedar Rapids visit in 2008.
