Dinga placed on DL; Towns arrives from Extended Spring Training

May 4, 2008 – The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce today that RHP Milan Dinga has been placed on the DL, retroactive to May 3, and that RHP Jordan Towns has been assigned to Cedar Rapids from Extended Spring Training in Tempe, AZ.

Dinga, who appeared in one game for the Kernels, is sidelined with a right rotator cuff strain. He pitched on May 2 in Fort Wayne and pitched one inning, giving up three runs on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts. He also was the pitcher of record, taking the loss.

Towns was selected by the Angels in the 25th round of the 2007 free agent draft out of the University of West Georgia in Carrollton. In 19 games at Orem last year, he posted a 6-3 record and 3.46 ERA with 41.2 IP, 38 hits, 17 runs (16 earned), 21 walks and 38 strikeouts.

Towns will join the Kernels in Fort Wayne and will be in uniform and available for Sunday’s 1 pm game with the Wizards.

With today’s transactions, the Kernels roster stands at 25 active players with two players currently on the disabled list.

The Kernels return home to Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday, May 5th for a three game series with the Peoria Chiefs and their hall of fame manager, Ryne Sandberg. This is the only time during the 2008 regular season that the Chiefs come to Cedar Rapids.
