Thirteen unlucky for Kernels in loss to Peoria

May 7, 2008 – The Peoria Chiefs scored 11 runs in the first three innings en route to a 13-7 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Wednesday afternoon at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Kernels starter Robert Fish (1-1) was roughed up for 11 runs (nine earned) on seven hits in six innings pitched to take the loss.

The Kernels pounded out 12 hits including doubles by Clay Fuller and Julio Perez, but were unable to take advantage of five Peoria errors. Fuller reached base five times, going 3 for 3 with two walks and two runs scored. Perez was 2 for 4 with an RBI as Andrew Romine, Jay Brossman, Gordie Gronkowski, Cody Collet and Chris Rosenbaum each added an RBI.

Peoria starter Chris Siegfried (1-3) gave up six runs on 10 hits through five innings to get the win.

The Kernels leave for an eight game road trip with four games at Wisconsin and Kane County. They return to Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday, May 16 and open an 11 game home stand that runs through Memorial Day.
