July 17, 2008 The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce a series of roster moves. RHP Jordan Walden has been promoted to Rancho Cucamonga of the California League and RHP Jeremy Haynes will join the Kernels from the Quakes. Also, OF Jeremy Moore has been activated from the disabled list and OF Ryan Groth has been assigned to the Orem Owlz of the Pioneer League.
Walden made 18 starts for the Kernels, posting a 4-6 record and 2.18 ERA, which was fourth lowest in the MWL. In 107.1 IP, he allowed 80 hits and 32 runs (26 earned) with 32 walks and 91 strikeouts.
Haynes played for the Kernels in 2007 and has only appeared in six games so far due to injury. He has a 1-2 record with the Quakes and a 10.03 ERA in 23.1 IP. Last year, he posted a 5-6 record and 3.06 ERA in 19 starts for the Kernels. He was selected by the Angels in the 37th round of the 2005 Free Agent Draft out of Tallahassee (FL) CC.
Moore hasn’t played since June 13 and was placed on the DL on July 6th with a left oblique strain. He is batting .243 with 8 HR and 25 RBI in 53 games for the Kernels.
Groth played in 19 games for the Kernels after joining the Kernels on June 20th. He was selected by the Angels in the 22nd round of the 2008 Free Agent Draft out of Oral Roberts University and played three games at Orem. He was batting .205 with 2 HR and 8 RBI.
Haynes will take Walden’s spot in the Kernels starting rotation and will start Sunday, July 20th against South Bend. With today’s transaction, the Kernels roster stands at the MWL maximum of 25 active players with five players currently on the disabled list.
The Kernels continue a six game home stand tonight against Dayton at 7 pm. The first 1,000 fans through the gates receive a free Kernels hat from Office Elements.
